For most people Barry is just about the docks and Barry Island. The reality is that until the pit owners decided that Barry was a better proposition for docks than Tiger Bay Barry was just a small village of about 100 people. The town crew exponentially and very quickly. The development of the docks defined the town. Housing was created using the material found locally. Where housing is needed quickly it tends to be identical. At least the materials and craftmanship were good and Barry does at least have good solid housing stock. The way in which the town was formed with the docks tended to destroy the history of the old town.
However, if you are interested in historical matters or just want to know a bit more about your town there is a great deal to be told, a lot to be found still.
Our focus is on The Court as that is our home. However, through looking at The Court we find so much to link Barry/Cadoxton with world events.
We want to look at the site and explain what has gone on here and how it impacts on other events in the UK and possibly beyond. The connections with events are not limited to South Wales or the Channel. We see many more connections that are interesting and hopefully add to the pride we believe Barry deserves. This is a list of interesting items; they can only be added to in time.
